Mary Hastings has been a senior associate with the Great Schools Partnership for the past twelve years. Mary’s work has been primarily in Maine and New England coaching high school and middle schools involved in smaller learning communities grants and more recently Personalized Learning work. This year is a new chapter for Mary and Great Schools Partnership, as she has moved to Atlanta, GA, and is currently working with the Henry County School District to develop their Personalized Learning efforts, concentrating on Competency-Based Learning. Her professional interests include equity and diversity in education for students and adults, improving classroom practice, and developing shared leadership in schools. Mary is a member of ASCD, Learning Forward, and the School Reform Initiative and is closely aligned with Coaching for Educational Equity (CFEE). Mary began her career as a school coach with the Center for Collaborative Education in Boston, where she consulted with K–12 schools across Massachusetts. Mary grew up in Indiana and earned a BS in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, an MS in science teaching from Antioch University, and an MEd in administration and supervision from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. She enjoys gardening, birding, hiking, various forms of exercise, and traveling. Her recent move brings her closer to her son and his family, including her two grandchildren. She lives in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta and is looking forward to all the city has to offer, although Maine remains her favorite place.
