Katie Thompson is a senior associate with the Great Schools Partnership. From 2003–2014, Katie was a 9–12 science teacher and field hockey coach at a high school in Maine. In addition to teaching and coaching, she was also actively involved in school and district initiatives, serving on the leadership team and as a district subject leader in science, guiding development of the K–12 science curriculum in the district. Katie has also been a professional learning group facilitator and school data coordinator, focusing on increasing student achievement through improving teacher practice. Katie has a BS in biology and a MEd in science education from the University of Maine. She received her CAS in educational leadership in 2011. Katie is currently working toward her PhD in educational leadership at the University of Maine. Her research interests include teacher-leader impact on school climate, effective culture and capacity building of staff, and teacher efficacy in teaching engineering in K–12 STEM education. Katie has served as the president of the Maine Field Hockey Association and remains involved in the sport coaching at youth and club levels.
